- message from our president

Well, the Parade of Home has come and gone and it was a good event again this year. Several home builders reported new sales and everyone I've spoken to had very good traffic. The parade committee is already starting to make plans for next year. I'd like to thank that committee for a job well done. The people responsible for the parade are, Gilbert Stroud, who was the chairman, Janie Figueroa, Robert Carr, Lola Thomas, Judy Avery, Vinnie Clifton and your truly. We were hoping this years Parade of Homes would be a pivotal point that would jump start new home sales. I think in many ways that was accomplished. I personally had some very good "quality" potential home buyers. I definitely had fewer "tire kicker" than last year. I hope the rest of the year is prosperous for everyone and hopefully I'll see more sold signs out there.

2008 President

-remodelers message

First off, I would like to thank the current members of the Remodelers Council for “asking” me to be chair of the council.  I am excited about my involvement with the growth that is under way with the Remodelers Council.  We are focusing on membership of the Remodelers Council and plans are being developed to create a community of remodelers that can help each other grow and prosper in this industry.

Is there news of gloom and doom for the Remodelers Council?  No.  While the new construction industry and the economy in general are experiencing a temporary downturn, remodeling in certain areas of the country are remaining steady.  Fortunately for us, one of the strongest areas of the country is the Carolinas and coastal areas up through Virginia.  This area will continue to be strong due to the influx of retiring baby-boomers, military growth and the infrastructure to support these segments of the population.

While there has been a downturn in the remodeling industry with respect to large projects due to the increasingly difficult terms and restrictions on financing, there is still plenty of work.  The challenge to us all is recognizing the trends and areas of remodeling that are still active.  It may just come in smaller projects and possibly different areas of work than you are accustomed.  It is strongly recommended that you not drastically diversify during a slow time in the economy, however, creativity and aggressive advertising and marketing of your company is key to survival.

Through added advertising and marketing, the Home Builders Association is increasing the visibility of the Remodelers Council within the community.  We are looking for new members and new ideas to fuel the growth.  Please contact the office for more information on the Remodelers Council membership, meetings and planned activities.  As with most things in life, you will only get out of it, what you put into it.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the Remodelers Council.
